How a spark wand actually works.
Every part of the PF001 has one job. Once you can see the sequence, the product stops looking like a novelty and starts looking like something you can support, service and sell with confidence.
Fuel, air, consumable — in that order.
Butane feeds a combustion chamber at the base of the spark tube. The cartridge sits above it, held by three locking slots. On ignition the gas ignites and the resulting hot gas stream carries material from the cartridge up and out of the tube, where it burns as visible sparks. Remove the cartridge and the same flame burns cleanly as a torch.
There is no explosive, no fuse and no pyrotechnic composition in the device itself. The effect comes from a controlled thermal stream acting on a sealed consumable — which is why the device and the consumable are classified, shipped and regulated as two separate items.
The ten parts that matter.
-
01
Spark outletHeat-resistant nozzle at the top of the tube. Sets the shape of the spark column and keeps the emission point away from the hand.
-
02
Spark tubeVertical channel that contains the combustion stream until it leaves the body, so the effect travels upward rather than sideways.
-
03
CartridgeSealed 45 g consumable. Single use. Marked with net content and an approved-consumables warning.
-
04
Cartridge locking slotsThree-point twist lock. The device will not fire unless the cartridge is fully seated, which prevents partial-seat blow-by.
-
05
Locating blockFixes the cartridge height relative to the combustion chamber. A consistent gap is what makes the effect repeatable between units.
-
06
Ignition buttonMomentary press. Requires the safety lock to be disengaged first — two independent actions before anything happens.
-
07
Safety lockMechanical interlock. Prevents accidental ignition in a bag or pocket, and gives you something concrete to point at in a product safety file.
-
08
Flame adjustment valveThumb wheel controlling gas flow. Low setting gives a sparse, longer-burning spark; high gives a dense, taller column.
-
09
Refill valveStandard butane inlet. Export units ship unfilled, so there is no pressurised gas in the carton during transport.

Remove the cartridge. It becomes a torch.
With the cartridge out, the combustion stream burns as a wind-resistant flame. That is genuinely useful before and after the moment: lighting a path, a table, a campsite, a cake. For a rental fleet it means one SKU covers two jobs, and for a retailer it means the product has a reason to be taken out of the box more than once.
What it is, and what it is not.
This is the section your compliance team will read first. We have kept it plain.
Is
- A hand-held mechanical device with a refillable butane tank
- A consumer product with a documented user manual and warranty
- Sold with a separately packaged consumable cartridge
- Protected by a granted invention patent and two design patents
Is not
- A firework, a pyrotechnic article or an explosive device
- A firearm, replica firearm or restricted weapon
- A toy — it is not certified to any toy safety standard
- A product you can ship without checking the destination rules
Why we say this out loud. Sellers get into trouble not because the product is dangerous, but because they assumed a classification instead of confirming one. We would rather lose a fast order than have a customer’s container stopped because the paperwork described the goods incorrectly. Every quotation states, in writing, how the goods will be declared for your destination and by which route.
